Sleigh Ride- Ella Fitzgerald

I started my day with Christmas music and I know I was thinking that I couldn’t wait to get home for Christmas break!

…Evidently I couldn’t get enough of the song, because I listened to it at 8:02 AM and 12:30 in the afternoon!

While searching for the featured image, I came across this article. I will have to check out his recommendations for the different versions of this song!

No One Else On Earth

Wynonna

I love Apple’s feature where it takes music that you enjoy / were playing and then springboards off of that, playing music they think you might also like. It makes for great car entertainment. I had been listening to Reba’s “Climb That Mountain High” when the next song that came on was this SOW. The craziest thing is that Gaga bears some resemblance to Wynonna here, and I can remember having Jonathan play the song for my dad and asking my dad over facetime who he thought could have played the song.

No text, just a screenshot. Generally, this song comes on randomly via Apple’s algorithm. If I continue to listen to it, its because the song pumped me up or because I am getting ready to exercise. It isn’t something I’d think or care to put on by myself.

When A Heart Breaks- Ben Rector

This song makes me think of Jackie Gaughan and how when I heard of his passing, my heart broke for Michael for having lost his dad. I remember putting this song on repeat, crying, in my dorm, as I listened to this song. I have thought of this song several times while out here in Omaha. This night, and then 2 weeks later when, out here in Omaha, I visited Jackie so that I could tell him what I never got to say to him in person; thank you for raising such an incredible son.

The Borders- Sam Fender

This is crazy. I have no idea why I snapshot-ed this song, but looking back at it today, what a crazy coincidence. Thanks to NYTCooking I found Fender about a month ago and absolutely fell in love with dancing to his song “17 Again”. I’ll have to re-listen to this now!

Only a few minutes later, I snapshot-ed this album (Lateness of Dancers by Hiss Golden Messenger) and had the song Lucia playing.

Evidently, I was on a roll today! This day really changed how I looked at that Johnny Cash album. Previously, I thought it was good for only a few songs, but truly it is a great album. Also, what playlist was I listening to? It was spot on! Lastly… did I really listen to 11 songs in 18-ish minutes?!

9:51 PM – 10:06 PM

Green Eyes- Joseph

And It’s Still Alright- Nathaniel Rateliff

Can’t Cheat Death- The Ballroom Thieves

Beautiful Flowers- Watchhouse

The Killing Type- Jamestown Revival

Even the River Runs out of This Town- Will Hoge

Johnny Cash: Forever Words Album

  • Dark and Bloody Ground- Ruston Kelly
  • The Third Degree- Aaron Lewis
  • California Poem- Jamey Johnson ft. Jerry Douglas and Sam Bush
  • Autumn- The Watkins Family Hour
  • Pretty Pictures in My Mind- The Lumineers

No idea where these came from… Shoot I can’t even tell which songs were supposed to be circled!

Also, oddly enough I was listening to Seal’s Bring It On at the time. So I’m really not sure what spurred these choices.

I Don’t Wanna Wait (or The Tales People Tell)- Kelly Finnigan

Overlord (or possibly “Windows Open”) – Dirty Projectors

Be Sweet (or Jubilee)- Japanese Breakfast

Pretty Girl- Eric Clapton

I was supposed to be packing up to move to Omaha and I came down with some strange summer flu. I was running a fever and by hauling things around, packing them up, running from one end of the house to the other I was causing the fever to get worse. I was banished (thanks mom ;P) to the sofa and Jonathan was my keeper (and the person keeping me away from the thermometer). Having finally settled down, I started my treatments while Jonathan and I listened to music through the front room TV. I was knee-deep in my treatments, hacking up a left lung and Eric Clapton’s “Pretty Girl” came on. Jonathan was humming along and when I glanced over at him I saw him looking at me. Looking at me, like I was the prettiest girl at a time when I felt very physically ugly. I was grunge-y, sweaty, feverish, probably a smidge smelly, but worst of it all I was gross, and yet looking at him I could tell that wasn’t what he saw. In that moment, watching him watch me, I felt so fortunate and loved. Reflecting on our relationship, it has not ceased to amaze me when I see how deeply Jonathan respects and loves me. It leaves me in awe of what an incredible individual he is and how lucky I am to have him. It’s reflecting on moments like these that I fall more deeply in love with him.
